Anesthesiology refers to the practice of medicine where medical professionals relieve pain and provide complete care of surgical patients during, before and after successful completion of surgery. The association offers its services in three anesthesia classifications namely local, regional and general anesthesia.
General anesthesia is applied where extensive surgery is conducted. In this case, the patient is required to be completely still and unconscious. Regional anesthesia, on the other hand, is performed on only one part of the body which is being operated. Sensation and pain are controlled. Local anesthesia which is also known as twilight sleep is carried out during operations on small areas of soft tissues.
